Stephen Curley is an award-winning teacher of literature, writing, and film. He is the author of numerous articles, the editor of Living on the Edge: Collected Essays on Coastal Texas (1989), and the co-author of Celluloid Wars: A Guide to Film and the American Experience of War (1992). He has released an audio cassette of sea songs and has been featured on radio and television programs.

Jean Lafitte: Pirate
Jean Lafitte is the best known pirate of the nineteenth century. His exploits in New Orleans and Galveston have become the stuff of legend. This presentation uses visual images, written accounts, and folk song to explore the career of an outlaw who has become a culture hero.
Chanteys: Work Songs at Sea
This lively presentation treats the audience as crew members of a nineteenth-century vessel to help them learn about life and work at sea. The presenter sings selected chanteys, plays the guitar, and comments about a typical voyage in the life of an ordinary sailor.
