In June 2016, Humanities Texas held six teacher institutes across the state. Topics included "Post-War America, 1945–1960" in Austin, "Teaching the American Literary Tradition" in Austin and El Paso, "From Colonists to Revolutionaries" in San Antonio, "America from Jefferson to Jackson" in Houston, and "The History of the American Southwest" in San Marcos. The institutes featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
