On June 17, 2023, Galveston will hold its Annual Juneteenth Historic Parade and Picnic to celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth. The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. and the picnic follows from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wright Cuney Park. For more information, contact Gwynetheia Shabazz Pope.
On June 19, 2023, the Reedy Chapel A.M.E. Church will celebrate Juneteenth and recognize the chapel's historical role as the location of the first documented celebration of emancipation that took place in Galveston following the announcement of freedom. A family-friendly block party is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by an Emancipation March re-enactment at 5:45 p.m. For more information, visit the Reedy Chapel website.
