Teaching the Harlem Renaissance (Spring In-Person Workshop)


On January 24, 2024 Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop in San Antonio for English language arts (ELA) teachers on the Harlem Renaissance.

Curriculum

The workshop expanded participants' understanding of the Harlem Renaissance and its expression in poetry, prose, music, and art.

The workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources and texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other instructional materials.

Faculty

Workshop faculty included Michael Borshuk (Texas Tech University), Bryan Carter (University of Arizona), Jennifer Freeman Marshall (Purdue University), and Ryan Sharp (Baylor University).

The workshop took place at the Region 20 Educational Service Center in San Antonio. The workshop schedule is available here.
