On September 26, 2017, the third installment of Texas Storytime, Humanities Texas's family reading program developed in partnership with libraries across the state, began at the Kurth Memorial Library in Lufkin. Focusing on early childhood literacy and support of parents and caregivers, the initiative features books by Texas writers and those that emphasize Texas cultures.

During the six-week series, storytellers will present dynamic, bilingual-friendly readings, and speakers will lead literacy-focused activities for parents and caregivers that encourage families to make reading and visits to the library a regular part of their routines. At all events, participants will receive complimentary refreshments and copies of the program books to read at home.
