In February 2013, Humanities Texas held five one-day teacher workshops throughout the state focusing on slavery, secession, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. Workshops took place at the Byrne-Reed House, our headquarters in Austin (February 15), the Region 14 Education Service Center in Abilene (February 18), the Region 2 Education Service Center in Corpus Christi (February 20), the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture (February 21), and the Region 7 Education Service Center in Kilgore (February 22).
The workshop faculty included Michael Les Benedict (The Ohio State University), Daina Berry (The University of Texas at Austin), H. W. Brands (The University of Texas at Austin), Albert S. Broussard (Texas A&M University), Daniel Feller (University of Tennessee), George Forgie (The University of Texas at Austin), Donald Frazier (McMurry University), Carey Latimore (Trinity University), Eric Walther (University of Houston), and Jennifer Weber (University of Kansas).
These workshops were made possible with major funding from the State of Texas, with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Sid W. Richardson Foundation provided additional support.
