On May 3, 2011, members of the Thankful Hubbard Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) gathered at the Byrne-Reed House to present Humanities Texas with a national award for historic preservation. The NSDAR Historic Preservation Recognition Award honors outstanding efforts in preserving landmarks of historic and cultural significance. Humanities Texas is honored to receive this award, which is now displayed in the Byrne-Reed House. Rebecca Kohout of the Thankful Hubbard Chapter said, "The gorgeous building where we are gathered this morning is a monument to the tenacity and dedication of the staff and friends of Humanities Texas. This restored home is a gathering place where all who are interested in the humanities can meet, discuss, plan, execute, debate, coordinate, and promote our heritage."
