On October 22, 2014, Humanities Texas held a teacher professional development workshop on Abraham Lincoln at the Byrne-Reed House in Austin.

Eric Foner, DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University, discussed the topic of his recent Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Fiery Trial: Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery. Jennifer L. Weber, associate professor of history at the University of Kansas, examined Lincoln as a politician and commander in chief.

The workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
