The San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) will host their 2023 Black History Film Series beginning March 16. Each screening of the family- and community-oriented film series will be followed by a panel discussion.

The first film in the series, Bessie, is about the American blues singer Bessie Smith and her transformation from a struggling young singer into "The Empress of the Blues." The screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Magik Theatre in San Antonio.

Subsequent screenings will be held on the third Thursday of each month through November 2023. All screenings are free and open to the public, but registration is required.
