On April 16, 2015, Humanities Texas hosted an evening with journalist and author Cokie Roberts. Roberts is a Morning Edition contributor on NPR and political commentator for ABC News. She has written several New York Times bestsellers including We Are Our Mothers' Daughters, Founding Mothers, and Ladies of Liberty. Roberts is the recipient of numerous awards including three Emmy’s, has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was named a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress in 2008.

At the event, which was held at the Byrne-Reed House in Austin, Roberts shared stories from her new book, Capital Dames: The Civil War and the Women of Washington, 1848–1868. We invite you view excerpts from her lively and informative talk below.
