On November 7, Humanities Texas received the 2019 John P. McGovern Award from the University of Houston College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. An annual endowed lectureship, the McGovern Award recognizes scholars and organizations whose work promotes dialogue between science, the humanities, and the social sciences. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M. Oshinsky gave the John P. McGovern Annual Award Lecture on behalf of Humanities Texas, speaking on "The Frayed Safety Net: America's Public Hospitals on the Brink." Humanities Texas is honored to receive this award, accepted on our behalf by board member Chase Untermeyer.
