After Hurricane Ike, Humanities Texas convened a meeting of major statewide cultural agencies and organizations to share information on the storm's impact on libraries and museums and to ensure support is distributed as efficiently and productively as possible. The group agreed to continue to meet at regular intervals as a taskforce and to work collaboratively to publicize the sources of assistance available to affected cultural institutions.

The taskforce includes representatives from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Texas Association of Museums, the Texas Historical Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, FEMA, the Governor's Department of Emergency Management, the Texas Library Association, and Humanities Texas.
