Jack Blanton, one of Texas's great philanthropic leaders, touched the lives of millions of Texans through the institutions he served. These entities include The University of Texas at Austin and its sister campuses, the Texas Medical Center, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Houston Zoo, the Houston Methodist Hospital, and the Houston Endowment, to name a few. Through the Scurlock Foundation, he generously supported Humanities Texas's campaign to buy and restore the historic Byrne-Reed House.

In May, Jack and Ginger Blanton spent an evening at the Byrne-Reed House attending a party in honor of David Oshinsky, the departing Jack S. Blanton Chair in History at The University of Texas at Austin. Jack died in Galveston on December 28. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through his wonderful family.
