The Summerlee Foundation has awarded Humanities Texas a grant of $100,000 for the restoration of the Byrne-Reed House. Part of the foundation's mandate is "to support research and education projects on the history of Texas." The grant, announced on September 24, 2008, will be used to match NEH's $1,000,000 challenge grant and brings the total of contributions and pledges to $3,642,858.

"We deeply appreciate the Summerlee Foundation's generous participation in our capital campaign," said Michael L. Gillette, Executive Director of Humanities Texas. "The foundation has done so much to preserve the heritage of our state."
