On September 20, 2013, Humanities Texas held a one-day professional development workshop in Houston for secondary-level language arts teachers on teaching the plays of William Shakespeare.

Workshop faculty included J. Dennis Huston (Rice University) and Elizabeth Richmond-Garza, John Rumrich, and Paul Sullivan, all of The University of Texas at Austin.

Faculty lectures addressed the historical and cultural contexts of Shakespeare's works, the classical sources of Shakespearean tragedy, approaches to teaching Shakespeare's comedies, and teaching Shakespeare using performance-based strategies.

The workshop was generously hosted by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Humanities Texas teacher professional development programs are made possible with major funding from the state of Texas, with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
