Wichita Falls History Harvest & Texas Film Round-Up
Event

Residents of Wichita Falls and the surrounding area are encouraged to participate in the upcoming History Harvest and Texas Film Round-Up at the Wichita Falls Public Library at 600 11th Street on Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Families are invited to bring old photos, films and videotapes, letters, journals, and other documents for FREE digitization. Start gathering your items now!

Staff and volunteers from the sponsoring organizations will review and scan paper items on site and immediately return the owner’s original materials, along with a free digital copy. The sponsoring organizations will also create and retain a digital copy, in accordance with the owner’s approval. The History Harvest will create a community collection from the area’s families to document our local, regional, and national heritage.

In addition, Texas-related films and videotapes can be dropped off at the event. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) will digitize these materials in Austin and return them by mail to the owners at no cost, along with a digital copy. To qualify for free digitization, participants must be willing to donate a digital copy of their materials to TAMI’s archive, a digital collection at texasarchive.org. TAMI also collects copies of already digitized Texas-related films. Community members are welcome to drop off films and videotapes at the library in advance, during regular business hours every Friday, July 13, 20, 27, and
August 3.

The History Harvest and Texas Film Round-Up are free and open to the public, and all ages are encouraged to attend. Free parking is available on site, including spaces for drivers with disabilities. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view historic film clips from around Texas at the event.

Sponsoring local organizations include the Wichita Falls Public Library, Moffett Library at Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Kemp Center for the Arts, Museum of North Texas History, Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts, and Culture and Wichita County Heritage Society. Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Texas Archive of the Moving Image, in partnership with the Office of the Governor’s Texas Film Commission, will also sponsor the event.
