On February 24, 2026, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop in Fort Worth for secondary-level social studies teachers on the Great Depression and the New Deal.
Content aligned with the TEKS for U.S. history. Topics covered included causes of the Great Depression, the Great Depression in Texas, photography documenting the Great Depression, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal.
The workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources and texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other instructional materials.
Program faculty included Michael Brandl (The University of Texas at Austin), Sean P. Cunningham (Texas Tech University), Jason Scott Smith (University of New Mexico), and James Swensen (Brigham Young University).
