Of Birds and Texas: The Gentling Brothers and Their Magnificent Book explores the lives and work of Fort Worth artists Stuart and Scott Gentling through forty lithographs from their 1986 elephant folio Of Birds and Texas. Upon its publication, Of Birds and Texas received widespread acclaim, with critics calling it a "magnificent achievement" and "the most stunning and prodigious book in Texas history."
The exhibition pairs framed prints with freestanding interpretive panels developed by Humanities Texas in consultation with the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Featuring photographs, narrative storytelling, and the brothers' own reflections on their work, the exhibition offers a fresh look at two of Texas's most fascinating artists while celebrating the distinct landscapes and vibrant avian diversity of the Lone Star State.
Of Birds and Texas: The Gentling Brothers and Their Magnificent Book is presented in partnership with The Bryan Museum and made possible in part by generous support from the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation.
