Cuban Refugee Center Flyer, 1962

The Cuban Refugee Program was established in 1961 after more than fifty thousand Cubans escaped to the United States due to Fidel Castro’s dictatorship. Because of the stringent restrictions imposed upon those attempting to leave Cuba, many refugees came to the U.S. with little money and few belongings. The program was created to provide funds for the resettlement, housing, vocational and educational programs, employment, food, and healthcare of those entering the U.S. A 1962 flyer distributed by the Cuban Refugee Center encourages people to sponsor Cuban refugees.
