Helguera, WWII propaganda poster, 1943.

An estimated four hundred thousand to five hundred thousand Latino Americans served during WWII, and thirteen were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Latino Americans played an integral role serving on the home front as civilians and as soldiers in Europe and the Pacific Theater. In 1943, Leon Helguera, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Mexico, created this poster for the Office of War Information, the agency responsible for wartime propaganda. The poster encourages Mexican American and Puerto Rican enlistment in the military and promotes unity among all countries in the Western Hemisphere against the Axis powers.
