The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty, signed December 8, 1987, eliminated U.S. and Soviet intermediate-and shorter-range nuclear missles and led to the elimination of more nuclear weapons.  The Senate ratified the agreement the following May, and it went into effect on June 1, 1988.
