Education
On March 7, 2025, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop at Texas A&M University in College Station for social studies and English language arts on teaching the literature of major American wars, including the Civil War, World War I and II, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the War on Terror.
Content aligned with the U.S. history and English language arts TEKS. Like all Humanities Texas programs, the workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources and texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other instructional materials.
The faculty included Marian Eide (Texas A&M University), Coleman Hutchison (The University of Texas at Austin), Steven Trout (The University of Alabama), and Alex Vernon (Hendrix College).
The workshop took place at the AgriLife Center at Texas A&M University. The workshop schedule is available here.
The workshop was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
