In fall 2025, Humanities Texas will offer online and in-person professional development programs for Texas social studies and English language arts teachers. September webinars include "Introducing, Interpreting, and Integrating Primary Sources in the English Language Arts Classroom" (September 15 and 22) and "America Before the American Revolution" (September 16). Additional workshops and webinars will be announced later this month.

All programs will emphasize close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources and texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.

Introducing, Interpreting, and Integrating Primary Sources in the English Language Arts Classroom (Webinar Series)

"Introducing, Interpreting, and Integrating Primary Sources in the English Language Arts Classroom" will take place on Zoom from 5:00–6:15 p.m. CT on September 15 and 22, 2025.

The webinar series will draw on a collaboration sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Library of Congress (LOC) resulting in NCTE's openly available collection of essays and lessons titled Working with Primary Sources in the English Language Arts Classroom.

Participants in this two-part webinar series will learn how to introduce primary sources in their ELA courses and will consider critical and creative approaches for interpreting and integrating primary sources into their instruction, ultimately learning how to model these processes for their students' own research and multimodal composition.

America Before the American Revolution (Webinar Series)

"America Before the American Revolution" will take place on Zoom from 5:00–6:15 p.m. CT on September 16, 2025.

The webinar will explore the place of the American colonies in the British Empire on the eve of the American Revolution. Special emphasis will be given to the colonial legislatures, such as the Virginia House of Burgesses. Discussion will culminate by considering the significance of the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) in setting the stage for the imperial crisis between Britain and the American colonies. Denver Brunsman (George Washington University) will lead the webinar.

This is the first in a series of webinars during 2025–2026 commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

More information about each program is available in the Education section of the Humanities Texas website. Teachers interested in attending should complete the online application form as soon as possible.

Please note that you must be a registered participant to attend any of the webinars.

Participants will receive CPE credit and a wealth of curricular materials. CPE hours will be based on Zoom attendance and adjusted if a participant misses any portion of the program. Registration for multi-day program series will remain open even after each series has already begun.

These programs are made possible with support from the State of Texas and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
