On September 16, 2025, Humanities Texas held a webinar on the American colonies in the British Empire on the eve of the American Revolution. This was the first in a series of Humanities Texas webinars during 2025–26 commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
Content aligned with the TEKS for U.S. history and government. The presentation explored the place of the American colonies in the British Empire on the eve of the American Revolution. Special emphasis was given to the colonial legislatures, such as the Virginia House of Burgesses. Discussion culminated by considering the significance of the Seven Years’ War (1756–1763) in setting the stage for the imperial crisis between Britain and the American colonies.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinar emphasized close interaction with scholars, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
Denver Brunsman of George Washington University led the webinar.
The webinar took place over Zoom on September 16, 2025. The schedule is available here.
The webinar was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
