On October 29, 2025, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop in Austin for English language arts (ELA) teachers on strategies for teaching drama at the secondary level.
Content aligned with the TEKS for English language arts. The workshop focused on ancient Greek, Shakespearean, and twentieth-century American plays and provided multiple approaches for generating student interest in and understanding of drama.
Like all Humanities Texas programs, the workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other instructional materials.
The faculty included Thomas E. Jenkins (Trinity University), and Minou Arjomand, Patricia M. García, and David Kornhaber of The University of Texas at Austin.
The workshop took place at the Thompson Conference Center at The University of Texas at Austin on October 29, 2025. The workshop schedule is available here.
The workshop was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
