On July 14, 2025, Humanities Texas held a webinar on teaching film adaptations of popular novels in the secondary-level classroom.
Content aligned with the secondary-level English language arts TEKS. The presentation covered some of the differences between teaching film and literature and important terms and approaches in film analysis. Specific adaptations covered included The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Diary of Anne Frank.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinar emphasized close interaction with scholars, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
Donna Kornhaber of The University of Texas at Austin led the webinar.
The webinar took place over Zoom on July 14, 2025. The schedule is available here.
The webinar was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
