Education
On February 5 and 12, the Digital Inquiry Group (DIG), formerly the Stanford History Education Group, introduced social studies teachers to their Reading Like a Historian curriculum.
The webinars introduced participants to DIG's Reading Like a Historian curriculum, which teaches students how to investigate historical questions by employing reading strategies such as sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating, and close reading. Instead of memorizing historical facts, students evaluate the trustworthiness of multiple perspectives on historical issues and learn to make historical claims backed by documentary evidence.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinars were teacher-centered, with an emphasis on developing effective pedagogical strategies.
Joel Breakstone, cofounder and executive director of DIG, led the webinars.
The webinar took place over Zoom on February 20, 2025. The schedule is available here.
The webinars are made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
