On July 14, 2025, Humanities Texas will hold a webinar for English language arts teachers on teaching film adaptations of popular novels in the secondary-level classroom.
The webinar will take place over Zoom from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14.
Content will be aligned with the TEKS. The webinar will explore the process of teaching film adaptations of literary texts in the secondary English language arts classroom. The presentation will cover some of the differences between teaching film and literature, as well as important terms and approaches in film analysis. Specific adaptations to be covered include The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Diary of Anne Frank.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the program will emphasize close interaction with scholars, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
Donna Kornhaber (The University of Texas at Austin) will lead the webinar.
The webinar is open to secondary-level English language arts teachers in Texas schools.
The online program is free to teachers and their schools. Participants will receive CPE credit and a wealth of curricular CPE hours will be based on Zoom attendance and adjusted if a participant misses any portion of the program. In order to attend the webinar and receive CPE credit, you must be a registered participant.
