We invite you to explore Texas Originals, Humanities Texas's radio series profiling individuals whose life and achievements have had a profound influence on Texas history and culture.

In the latest season, listeners have the opportunity to meet intrepid explorer Bernardo de Gálvez, playwright Josefina Niggli, civil rights activist William J. Durham, Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla Pérez, and many other significant figures from our state’s past.

All episodes of Texas Originals are available on the Humanities Texas website. Each webpage includes photographs, historic documents, Spanish-language translations, and additional resources for listeners to learn more about each of the "originals" featured in the series. We also recently lauched a suite of curriculum resources for classroom teachers to integrate Texas Originals episodes into their classrooms.

The spring 2025 issue of Humanities magazine featured an engaging article titled "Two Minutes in Texas," which details the history and aims of the series.

Texas Originals is developed in partnership with Houston Public Media and Austin PBS and is available at no cost to all public and commercial radio stations in the state. If you are interested in bringing the series to your community, contact us at txoriginals@humanitiestexas.org.
